Bon Iver is a tough artist to cover. We’ve heard a few good ones (Peter Gabriel’s “Flume” and Birdy’s “Skinny Love” come to mind), but they’ve mostly been the stripped-down, sullen songs of For Emma, Forever Ago.
That’s why it’s so interesting to hear this song by Avec Sans. The London duo (Alice Fox and Jack St. James) took the majestic “Perth,” the opening track from Bon Iver, and reworked it into Metric-style dance pop.
It’s a bold cover and a strong debut from Avec Sans.
