Tame Impala’s Innerspeaker was one of 2010′s best. The Australian group are following up that album with Lonerism, recorded entirely by frontman Kevin Parker and mixed by Dave Fridmann.
The first song from the new album, “Apocalypse Dreams,” is more brilliant psychedelic rock. Even though it might have fit nicely on Innerspeaker, the track still feels groundbreaking.
“Apocalypse Dreams” is driven by acid-soaked synths and keys, but Parker’s uncanny vocal similarity to John Lennon and a sturdy bassline that soars through the wall of noise sound enough like the Beatles to make you forget the more modern instruments.
Another single, “Elephant,” is on its way this month, and Lonerism will be out in October via Modular.
