Back in 2001 (can you believe it’s been 11 years?!), the neo-garage-rock movement propelled by bands like the White Stripes and the Hives was taking rock radio by storm. One of the most played songs (at least near me) was the Strokes’ “Last Nite.”
I don’t know if I was put off by its simplicity or what, but it wasn’t enough to grab my middle-school attention span. It wasn’t until “Someday” came out as a single that I took more than a casual interest in the Strokes.
I grew to love “Last Nite,” and the rest of Is This It? but “Someday” is still my favorite Strokes song. Fake Walls just unearthed an early in-studio session the band did at WFMU, featuring an alternate version of “Someday.” It’s a bit sloppy, which makes it all the more charming, and has different lyrics than the album version.
Take a listen below and stream the whole session at WFMU’s archives.
