The Adult Swim Singles Series has been releasing free music all summer. Previously, we heard a new Flying Lotus track, “Between Friends,” which featured Earl Sweatshirt and Captain Murphy. The latest addition to the series comes from noisy surf-punk band Wavves.
The new song, “Hippies Is Punks,” is a ’90s throwback. The hooks are straight out of early Weezer, but Wavves adds some almost-blown-out distortion.
“Hippies is Punks” is the band’s first new song in a while. Frontman Nathan Williams has been making beats with his brother Joel as Sweet Valley, but Wavves has been recording a new album as well.
