DIY duo Buke and Gase are releasing a new EP this fall. Function Falls will be released digitally to coincide with their upcoming tour with Deerhoof.
By crafting handmade instruments and rigging pedals, Buke and Gase’s two members, Arone Dyer and Aron Sanchez, manage to play everything themselves. They created a bigger-than-expected sound on their debut, Riposte, and the EP’s lead track, “Misshaping Introduction,” shows how the band has magnified their sound even more.
Dyer’s buke (her custom baritone ukulele) plays spiky leads over Sanchez’s humming gase (his own guitar-bass hybrid). They both double up on foot-powered percussion as well.
