BBC 6 Music is marking the Rolling Stones’ 50th anniversary with a ton of programming celebrating the band.
We recently heard First Aid Kit’s cover of “Play with Fire,” and now 6 Music has another new Stones cover.
The Walkmen also did a song from the band’s earlier period: “Blue Turns to Grey.” They breezed through the straight-forward Brit pop on Lauren Laverne’s show.
This covers series is definitely one to watch.

BBC 6 Music is marking the Rolling Stones’ 50th anniversary with a ton of programming celebrating the band. They recently premiered First Aid Kit’s cover of “Play with Fire” on Lauren Laverne’s show.
The Swedish duo, sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg, took the stripped-down, kinda-creepy Stones song and made it prettier and simpler than the original. The girls’ harmonies ditch Mitch Jagger’s haunted tone.
Let’s hope BBC 6 Music has some more new Stones covers ahead.
At only 22, Laura Marling has quietly taken her place among indie music’s greatest songwriters. The British songstress’ second album, I Speak Because I Can, even made Ryan Adams almost completely rewrite his latest, Ashes & Fire.
Marling recently played a new song at BBC 6 Music’s 10 Anniversary concert. “Once” is presumably from her fourth album, of which no details have surfaced.
