tUnE-yArDs, aka Merrill Gabel, recently teamed up with the Roots’ drummer Ahmir ?uestlove Thompson, Angelique Kidjo and Akua Naru to record a cover of Nigerian musician Fela Kuti’s “Lady.”
The collaboration proves to be as exciting as it sounds. ?uestlove effortlessly keeps a pretty complicated African beat, while funk guitars and horns pump through it. Gabel and Kidjo sing the melodies, while Naru lays down a rap verse.
The track will be released on Red Hot + FELA, a collaboration between (RED) and the Red Hot Organization to Fight AIDS. There’s no release date yet, but you can purchase “Lady” on iTunes from the SoundCloud link below.
