Animal Collective just released a 12″ on Record Store Day — featuring two experimental pieces from the Guggenheim performance. But they’ve saved their new songs for a summer release.
They’ve got a new 7″ single coming out in June with two brand new tracks, “Honeycomb” and “Gotham.” These are the first Animal Collective songs to feature Deakin since Strawberry Jam.
“Honeycomb” begins with a noisy sound collage that sounds a lot like Black Dice. It quickly morphs into an echoey, rhythmic stomp, which Animal Collective seems to have perfected.
The b-side, “Gotham,” is a slow-burning psychedelic jam. It’s still heavily percussive, driven mainly by congas, but features warbly guitar and whirring synths flying around the beat and the layered vocals.
Listen to both tracks below. The “Honeycomb”/”Gotham” digital bundle is available now, and the 7″ comes out June 26 on Domino.
