The indie supergroup Divine Fits (Spoon’s Britt Daniel, Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade/Handsome Furs, and New Bomb Turks’ Sam Brown) are releasing their debut album, A Thing Called Divine Fits, this summer.
So far, the band sounds exactly how you’d expect. The first single, Boeckner’s heavy dance tune “My Love Is Real” sounded pretty much like the Handsome Furs, and the newly released, Daniel-led song, “Would That Not Be Nice,” sounds like Spoon.
“Would That Not Be Nice” has a few unique parts — some effects and a keyboard flourish here and there — but the rhythmic lead and minimal guitar chug feel almost straight out of Kill the Moonlight.
That’s not to say the songs aren’t good. Both of the first two tracks are strong singles. Even if A Thing Called Divine Fits sounds like a Spoon/Handsome Furs split LP, that can’t leave many complaining.
A Thing Called Divine Fits is out August 28 on Merge.
